Want to read the whole Bible in 2023?
In 2017, Lifeway Research found that 17 percent of Americans "flip open the Bible and read a passage at random." But how many of us have read it multiple times?
Still, reading through the Bible in a year can be intimidating. I have some crazy friends starting the new year by doing 3,000 pushups in January. They invited me to join, but I said, "Only if we commit to 10,000 pushups." Why settle?
For years, I did more than read through the Bible in a year. I'd read the entire Bible once, plus an additional reading of the New Testament and the Psalms. It was challenging but invigorating. I got started because I saw friends doing it, and I imitated their faith.
After the debacle at RZIM, I found it harder to read the Bible. I still love the Bible and read it, but it's a different experience. The Psalms are now my favorite part of the Scriptures - real, raw, honest cries of the heart to God.
For the new year, I wanted to reset. I want to enjoy God's word.
So I looked for someone who loves the Scriptures. Trillia Newbell loves hiking and eating bbq, so that was a promising start. She also wrote 52 Weeks in the Word, a resource that provides "a joy-filled, thoughtful, and realistic pathway through the entirety of God's Word!" I love her passion for Scripture. I want to see where it comes from and how she sustains it.
On January 11th, I will host a Live Event with Trillia. I want you to come if you can. It's online at lunchtime, and you can ask any question. If you want to watch it later, you can subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notified when the recording is available.
If you're stuck in a Bible reading rut, or you never got into a daily Bible reading habit in the first place, or just want to have fun as Trillia and I talk about how to engage with God's word, sign up now. And tell some friends!
